About me
Welcome ! Songwriting was the “itch” that was always there. It wouldn’t go away. It still with me today. I wrote a lot of songs in my teenage years and realised trying to be the next Cat Stevens or Paul Simon wasn’t going to pay the bills. I did my other career in journalism & broadcasting and returned to the “itch” later in life. I started some serious learning , listening and writing.
My first album “On Roosevelt” appeared in 2014 followed by a second “Usual Alias” in 2017. A song called “Always Reminders” won the Hollywood USA Song Contest and my songs attracted some terrific comments and reviews as hit the internet and BBC TV and radio.
There were times I never thought this my third album “Somebody Said” would get over the line due to Covid….but it has. I’m really proud of it. It’s who I am. It’s 14 brand new songs – some fun , some serious – just me observing love and life as I get older.😊
I also want to say this album wouldn’t have happened without my good friend , brilliant producer and all round musician Dave Phillips of The White Room Studios at Southampton. I’d also like to thank the talented team who have supported me through the production of all 3 albums – web site designer Simon Ridley , album designer Ben Smith and Beaulieu photographer Tim Robinson.
On Roosevelt
On Roosevelt was Lee Desty’s first album of original songs issued in 2014. Both the album title track about the gritty world of Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, New York and the powerful “This Child” got airplay on both BBC radio and TV in the UK.
Usual Alias
Usual Alias is my second album of original songs. Some are from the heart, some focus on the darker side of human nature… and some are just a fun take on the things people say and do in relationships and situations.
Somebody Said
Somebody Said is my third album of original songs written and recorded before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.
